William Jack Barnett, Jr., SFC, 76 of North Jackson passed away Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2024 at St, Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown. William, known as Jack, was born March 25, 1948 in Cullman, Alabama. He graduated from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama and was drafted June 8, 1967 into the U.S. Army.
Jack served with the 1st Battalion 14th Infantry Division Vietnam (Golden Dragons). He was awarded various medals including the Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart. Jack maintained and repaired a variety of missile systems to keep these powerful systems in top fighting shape. He retired from the Army after 20 years of service, settling in North Jackson.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and cooking on the grill. He was often found working on his tractor or cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide football.
His wife of 57 years, the former Sherry Lynn Rudd, preceded him in death on February 17, 2024. Jack leaves his son, Rick (Rebecca) Barnett of Canfield; two daughters, Kimberly (Scott) Barnes of Salem, and Jennifer Barnett of Boardman; three sisters, Janet Barnett and Deborah Roth of Alabama and Sue Barnett of Boardman. Besides his parents and his wife, Jack was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Pivarnik; two brothers Joseph Barnett, Stephen Barnett and a sister, Patricia Wright.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 29th from 12:00 pm until 12:45 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery.
