Austintown

William T. “Bill” Schinker, 78, of Austintown, died on Thursday, March 28 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born in 1945 in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Marion (Williams) Schinker.

Bill was a 1964 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, where he participated on the track and football teams.  He remained a loyal Falcon throughout his life and was inducted into the Austintown Fitch Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1962 football team.

Bill served his country in the United States Army from 1965-1967 and was stationed in Korea, where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Pyong (Ann).  He was awarded several commendations for his excellence as head supply clerk for his meticulous organization and record-keeping skills.

Prior to retirement in 2016, Bill worked for General Motors in Lordstown for 48 years. He was a member of GM’s Fire Brigade and the Emergency Response Team, where he was called into action on numerous urgent occasions.

Bill was completely devoted to his family.  He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and was happiest when everyone gathered at his home, thriving on the noise and chaos of laughter and conversation. He loved listening to country music, scrapbooking, and watching his favorite football teams, YSU, Ohio State, and the Cleveland Browns.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ann Schinker, whom he married on October 5, 1967. He also leaves his children Mary (Terrence) Malloy, Bob (Bridget) Schinker, step-son Chun Sop Kim (Sun), his sister Linda and twin brother John (Georgia) Schinker, nine beloved grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion (Williams) Schinker and siblings Joan Schneider, George Schinker, Marilyn Crivelli, and Bonnie Huish.
