Zachery Tyler Mozena, 16 of Champion Township, died Thursday morning, February 23, 2012, at his home in Champion. He was born June 22, 1995 in Berea, the son of Dale L. and Joie Swift Mozena with whom he made his home in Champion. Zach was a junior at Champion High School, where he was on the cross country team and the track team, in the shot put and discus events. He was very active with and enjoyed the Champion High School marching and symphonic bands and the jazz band, playing trombone. Zach was in the District 5 Honors Band and was a member of the Environthon team for several years in middle school and high school. He had attended Kent State University, taking English classes. He had played Little League ball and soccer in elementary school and was active with the United Methodist church Camp Asbury in Hiram. Zach was always there for friends and was willing to help everyone. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and attended Wildare United Methodist Church and was a member of both church youth groups. Zach enjoyed hunting and bow hunting and fishing. He loved music and dabbled in playing the guitar and piano. Zach is survived by his parents of Champion; one sister, Britney Marie (Anthony Cole) Mozena of Lakewood; one nephew, Hunter Xavier Cole and one niece, Annaliese Harper Cole and three aunts, Diana McCray of Maumee, Doreen (Blaine) Lytle of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Danniel Abouelhanna of Lorain. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Wildare United Methodist Church in Champion, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday, February 27, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zachery Mozena Memorial Scholarship Fund, to benefit a Champion High School student from Zach's class of 2013, c/o Chase Bank, 4538 Mahoning Avenue N.W., Warren 44483.
