Gladys Seafert Hood, 85, of Warren died at noon on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at her home.

She was born August 7, 1924, in Hubbard, the daughter of Carl and Elva Seafert. She was a 1942 graduate of Mecca High School and a 1947 graduate of Youngstown School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 14 years and was the Benefits Adminstrator and Plant Nurse at Alcan Aluminum for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She served on the board of the Industrial Nurses Association and was an Executive on Loan for the United Way.

Gladys was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an award-winning quilter and seamstress and served as President of Five Star Quilters. Gladys enjoyed golfing and was a charter member of Bristol Springs Country Club. Gladys and her husband loved to dance and were avid ballroom and square dancers, helping to form the Crosstrailers Square Dance Club. She volunteered and supported the Girl Scouts of America, March of Dimes, United Way and Planned Parenthood.

A cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gladys will be deeply missed by her husband, Kenneth (Buzzy) Hood, whom she married August 2, 1944; four children; Robert (Janice) Hood of Dallas, TX, Linda (John) Ferlito of Kent, Gary (Jean) Hood of Chagrin Falls and Lori (Randy) King of Canfield; eleven grandchildren; Robert Sloan (Rachel) Hood, Zachary (Ashley) Hood, Mia Hood, Max (Katie) Hood, Owen Hood, Logan Ferlito, Jake Ferlito, Nate (Kati) King, Tyler King, Ryan King and Emily King; and a great granddaughter, Harper Hood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Edward Seafert and an infant son, Charles Hood.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2860 East Market Street, Warren, OH. Family and friends will be received immediately following the service.
