Obituary

Henry C. Mines, Jr., 92, lifelong resident of Howland, passed away July 6, 2014 at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Hank was born September 21, 1921 in Howland, son of Henry and Zoe (Edwards) Mines.
He was a 1939 graduate of the Howland High School. After graduation, Hank joined the Army Air Corps, where he served during WWII. He was stationed with the 445th Bomber Group at Tibenham RAF in Norfolk, England. He was always proud of the fact that his commanding officer was Jimmy Stewart. He attained the rank of Sergeant before discharge in 1945. After he was discharged, he went to work with Federal Machine and Welding as a Machinist. Later he moved to Packard Electric where he worked until his retirement in 1984. Hank was a member of the Howland United Methodist Church, and served two terms as a Trustee. He was active in his community, and help to start and organize Howland Little League and the Howland Athletic Club. He served as Past President of the Howland Tiger Boosters, as well as delivered for Trumbull Mobile Meals for 10 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Irene (Miller); two sons, Lawrence (Linda) Mines and Mark (Cindee) Mines; two daughters, Lora (David) Smith and Martha (Denis) Popovic; nine grandchildren, Rebecca, Steve, Megan, Shannon, Matthew, Daniel, Amy, Elizabeth and Eric, as well as seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret McCaughtry and one brother Delbert Mines.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the Lane Family, Roberts-Clark Chapel 180 Garfield Dr. Warren. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at Howland Township Cemetery.
