Jane L. Mason, 98

Girard: Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Girard First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market Street,
Girard for Jane L. Mason, 98 who died Tuesday evening at Briarfield Manor surrounded by her loving family.
Jane was born January 24, 1915 in Lansing Michigan, a daughter of the late William D. and Mary Smith Powell, coming to this area as a child. She grew up on the South Side of Youngstown and graduated from South High School. She met and married the "love of her life", Henry C. Mason on June 1, 1941. Her life revolved around her family: husband, Hank, daughter Carroll, and son, "my Bill". Her dogs Maggie, Heidi, Pepper and Inky were special loves also. Jane was a homemaker in every sense of the world. A talented seamstress, she made all of Carroll's clothes, including doll clothes. She was a noted cook and a notorious baker – her apple pie, Welsh cookies and date pinwheels were among family favorites. She looked forward to and helped organize many family gatherings.
Jane was a dedicated member of the church, where she was a very active member in the Lydia Circle, as well as the Pastor/Parish Council. The annual church bazaars' were recipients of her knitted and crocheted items, along with many, many clever craft pieces and homemade jams, jellies and preserves.
Her smile and constant positive attitude were special traits. At the nursing home Jane became known as Ms. Sunshine.
Family vacations were special events: to Florida, to Billow Beach at Geneva and then to Long Beach, North Carolina. She loved the sun and all the time at water's edge.
In later years, from Spring until Fall you would see Jane and Hank sitting out in their driveway on Joan Ave visiting with all the neighbors and friends who went by; either walking, by car, motorcycle, bicycle or wagon.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter-in-law, Dianna R. Mason of Girard; grandson Nick (Erin Lauderman) Mason and great-grandchildren, Virginia Jane (Ginny) and Miles William all of Minneapolis. Additionally she leaves her son-in-law, David (Becky) Morgan; grandson Keith Morgan and great-granddaughter Kayla; grandson, Jason (DeAnn) Morgan and great-grandchildren, Josie Carroll, Ella Jane and Mason all of North Carolina. Jane also leaves many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Hank who died September 20, 2003; her daughter, Carroll; her son William and two brothers, Jack and William "Bud" Powell.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial will follow at Girard City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Briarfield Manor, special personal caregivers, Mary Ann, Chris, Mary Fran, Darlene and Tara. They were all deeply cherished for sharing their experience and loving touches with Jane. during her illness. The family would also like to express their deep gratitude to Hospice of the Valley and their caring staff. Jane left this world beloved by many, many people.
Arrangements are being handled by Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel.
