Kenneth 'Buzzy' Hood, 88, of Warren passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic surrounded by family members.

He was born March 19, 1924, in Mineral Ridge, the son of Kenneth Flynn and Irene Smith Hood. He was a 1942 graduate of Bazetta High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II in Okinawa. For forty-two years, Buzzy worked for Republic Steel. On August 2, 1944, he married Gladys Seafert who preceeded him in death on August 30, 2009. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Buzzy was a well-known area runner competing in local races, marathons and Masters Track and Field. He was a world record holder at the masters level in the 800 meter run. He ran many marathons including the New York City Marathon, LA Marathon, and Honolulu Marathon, all after the age of 60. He was an inductee of the Warren Sports Hall of Fame and Lakeview Sports Hall of Fame. Of special note, he scored a game-winning unassisted triple play during a Bazetta High School baseball game. Buzzy enjoyed golfing and was a charter member of Bristol Springs Country Club. He loved to dance and was an avid ballroom and square dancer, helping to form the Crosstrailers Square Dance Club.

Buzzy was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by four children; Robert (Janice) Hood of Dallas TX, Linda (John) Ferlito of Kent, Gary (Jean) Hood of Chagrin Falls and Lori (Randy) King of Cortland; eleven grandchildren, Robert Sloan (Rachel) Hood, Zachary (Ashley) Hood, Mia Hood, Max (Kate) Hood, Owen (Laura) Hood, Logan Ferlito (Enoch Shih), Jake Ferlito, Nate (Kati) King, Tyler (Kendal) King, Ryan King and Emily King and 3 great grandchildren, Harper Hood, Luca Hood and Alexandra Hood. He also leaves a sister, Marjorie Williamson of Hemet, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son Charles Hood, and his sister Lois Koscka.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2860 East Market Street, Warren, OH 44483. Family and friends will be received immediately following the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren.
